Big Bend Adventure - June 2011

In June I went on a photographic adventure to Big Bend National Park along with our professor and some of my fellow classmates taking a Landscape and Nature Photography class at Texas A&M-Commerce.  This was an 8-day adventure.  I left on June 11th, returned on June 19th and traveled to Odessa, Fort Stockton, Marathon, Big Bend National Park, Terlingua, Marfa, Alpine and Fort Davis.  It was a terrific journey - I hope you enjoy some of my photographs.

Photography 208 - Assignment #1

Red Warning

The first assignment for my Texas A&M Photography 208 class was to start to notice color scenes.  We were given a list of names taken from paint chips and were to use these as the theme for a photograph.

These are my photographs along with the color chip name.

4-H Photography *** Assignment # 2 *** Report On A Photographer

Assignment #2 is for you to start learning about other photographers in the USA and around the world.  You will become a better photographer if you look at what kind of photographs famous or serious photographers are making.

Here's what I want you to do:
  • Look around for photographs you really do like.  Maybe it's nature photos, or news photos, or portraits, or fashion photos, or whatever appeals to you.
  • Choose a photographer you like, find out some facts about the photographer, show us some examples of his or her photos, then give the class a short report about what you learned about the photographer.
  • For this assignment I want you to select photographers that are of national or international significance. It needs to be someone which has their photography widely distributed in publications ( books, magazines, etc.) or in art galleries or art museums
  • The photographer can be living or dead, male or female, from the USA or another country.
  • Do a little looking around and I’m sure you will find someone you like.
After you select a photographer, send me an email (lonehiker1@yahoo.com) telling me who you selected.  I will need to approve your selection of a photographer before you start.

This sounds like a lot of work but I think you will enjoy it and learn a lot !

4-H Photography *** Assignment # 1 *** Rule Of Thirds

Assignment #1 is for you to practice using the composition techinique of "Rule Of Thirds" in your photographs.

Here's what I want you to do:
  • Take a lot of photographs and compose your photographs using the "Rule Of Thirds"
  • Your photos can be in any of the categories we talked about in class: People, Animals/Animal Life, Still Life, Natural Landscape, Plant/Flora, Architectural Elements, or Special Effects/Creative Effects
  • Select your best 10 photos
  • Copy them to a jump drive
At the next class meeting we will project your photos on the screen and you will tell us about your photos and the class will make comments about them.  Then you and I will select one of your photos for you to work on in Photoshop and print.

Good Luck and Have Fun Photographing !
